Ceiling Collapse From a Water Heater Leak

A water heater leak from your attic can be a scary situation.   This ceiling collapsed and not only is there water damage, but there is structural damage too.   After the leak is repaired, and we have cleaned up the mess, SERVPRO of Elizabeth City/Outer Banks will help to repair the ceiling, and make it "Like it never even happened."

Water Pipe Burst in Ceiling Damage

Fortunately the homeowners were away when water pipes burst and the ceiling came crashing down.

After any water damage situation, your primary focus should be safety first:

  • Is it safe to stay in the house?
  • Electrical and "slip and fall" hazards are some of the most prevalent concerns.
  • Only do activities that are safe for you to perform.
  • Wet materials can be VERY heavy. Be careful!

Water Heater Leaks in Crawlspace

When a first floor water heater leaks, one of the first places we inspect is the crawlspace.

This leak looks like it went unnoticed for some time.  This is a good example as to why you should call us immediately after a water leak.  Mold can grow in as little as 48 hours.

Extracting Water

This is our extractor that will remove most of the water from the carpet.  It's similar to laundry, where the spin cycle removes most of the dampness from your clothes.

Next you will move the clothes to the dryer to dry.  After the extractor, we will implement our drying equipment, dehumidifiers and air movers to remove the rest of the moisture.

Mushrooms Grow From Contaminated Water

Water damage is never easy to deal with and even worse when the water is from a toilet or sewer backup.

The homeowner wanted to avoid a weekend emergency call only to discover these mushrooms growing two days later from the ceiling.

The water is what we call "Black Water", a category 3, very contaminated and an immediate health hazard.  Sewage backup should be considered an emergency and dealt with as soon as possible.  You should never try to clean it up yourself.
